I've heard of 'Information Overload.' But I recently actually experienced it for myself. There is so much info out there today. In all forms, of course. But most easily accessed, on the Net. And we sort of convince ourselves that we "need" to take it all in. A silly plan in itself, but that doesn't stop us from "trying."
I keep lots of non-daily-reading blogs in Google Reader. Those which fall under the topic of 'Pretty.' And those which fall under the topic of 'Simplicity.' The 'Pretty' is self explanatory. The 'Simplicity' covers... how to live more simply, in all its forms. And also covers how to accomplish culling our clutter and unnecessary 'stuff.' and the like. And also, finding more inner peace in this rush-rush-rush world. And like I said, I don't read them every day. But I recently took some time to really zap through them. Ouch!
My head hurt after. Really. I knew I'd actually experience this thing called information overload. And I knew it didn't feel good. -sigh-
OK, lesson learned. Now, how not to repeat it?
First of all, do I really need that many blogs on the topics? The 'Pretty' ones are quite easy. Just scroll through them, looking at photos of things. Quick work! But all the ones, under the 'Simplicity' umbrella... Well, I think I'm gonna' have to take a hard look at those. See how many over-lapping ones there are. And cull some. Because those take time! They have to be read. And sometimes lead to links, in other places on the Net, as well.
So OK, I have a plan.
But the most important part of this whole exercise is ~~ to start doing some of this stuff, and stop just reading about it. Duhhh me. How much common sense does that take, to figure out, hu? Read. Read. Read. OK! Now!! It's time to doooooooooooooooooooo! :-)
